The Marvel Studios producer, Stephen Broussard, explains what Marvel has learned in recent years from the MCU that will differentiate the Marvel Fantastic Four from the 2005 Fox Fantastic Four.
The Fantastic Four is one of the most important teams in the Marvel comics, but has yet to succeed in a worthy adaptation. However, now the MCU is an opportunity to change that and lay the foundations for a more comedic adaptation, making them the next team after the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Broussard outlined how the Marvel Fantastic Four will be different from the 2005 Fantastic Four movie. Check it out below:
Screen Rant: “You’ve worked with Kevin Feige on Marvel projects, even before the MCU, with Spider-Man 3 and the 2005 Fantastic Four. We have a new Fantastic Four movie coming out 20 years later. What has Marvel learned in that time that will differentiate this version from the 2005 version?”
Stephen Broussard: “That’s a good question. I wouldn’t presume to know everything about that movie; I’m not necessarily working on it. But one of the founding principles of Marvel, going back to Iron Man and the Tony cast I think that’s resonated to this day, is to embrace the source material and those comics that have existed forever. They’re older than I am and I imagine they’re older than you too.
They’ve been around for a while for a reason, [so we] lean into that. I think the world has changed a bit, people understand that now. But in 2005, there might have been a reticence to fully embrace what it was. In everything; in the personification of Galactus and things like that. Whatever form the story takes, whatever characters appear or not, that founding principle will be adopted and they will be embraced in the MCU.”
